           A  quick guide  to the softwares on the PC.

for the nodes: grad.physics.sunysb.edu, etc in the computing room.

acroread:     Acrobat reader for reading PDF file.
   
evince:       a pdf reader.

firefox:      a web browser.

gedit:        gnu editor.

gfortran:     g77, GNU Fortran 95 compiler

gcc:          gcc, gnu c, c++ compiler.

gnuplot:      a plotting package.

gimp:         a graphic package.

gthumb:       picture viewer, .jpg / .gif.

jedit:        rectagular editor (grad only).

mathematica:  mathematica. 
              For Linux PC (grad, grad08, etc) use softserve.sinc.stonybrook.edu 
              as your license server.

root:         c/c++ interactive interpreter.

tex:          tex / latex for document processing.

xfig:         a plotting package in x-window environment (on grad. only)

www page:
          To create your own web page,  make a sub-directory, www in your area (mkdir).
          Put a file,  index.html,  in your www area if possible. The files must
          be world readable,  your home (top) directory must be world-executable,
          /homes/glab_vol1/your_username  -->  drwx--x--x.
