Every first tuesday of the month the planetarium presents Virtual Universe a public program
which uses advanced digital software to present an atlas of the Universe. I can often be found
either behind the controls of the dome flying through the sky or speaking on our monthly topic.

The Education Department of the American Museum of Natural
History offers several
opportunities for students in the NYC school
system. I was assistant
coordinator for the
Astrophysics Moveable Museum and I was coordinator of the
Hayden Astrophysics
Outreach program while I was a member of the Education department.
The Moveable
Museum consists of a 37-foot long Winnebago that has been gutted
and a state of the art
astronomy exhibit installed. While I was with the moveable, myself and another
instructor
drove the moveable museum to hundreds of schools, libraries, day
camps, block parties, and
community events throughout the NYC metropolitan
area and taught astronomy for a day.
At left is a picture of the first class of students
in
the Hayden Astrophysics Outreach Program.
There were just under 30 seventh grade students
to start. Many of them continue with the program
today (five years after they
began) as it is meant to
train students in the science of the Museum from
the
seventh grade through their senior year in high
school. The students attendclasses on
Saturdays
during the school year and for several weeks during
the summer. The students
I had the priveledge to
teach during my time with this program are some
of the most
amazing people I have ever known.
